Right Before you Tilt
Ah, the tilt. If a poker gambler states never to have looked over the barrel of a looming steam – they are either lying or they have not been wagering long enough. This doesn’t mean obviously that everyone has gone on tilt in the past, a number of people have great willpower and take their losses as a defeat and leave it at that. To be a good poker gambler, it’s especially important to appraise your wins and your losses in the same manner – with no emotion. You participate in the match the same way you did after taking a tough beat like you would after winning a great hand. Most of the poker masters are not tempted by tilting following a bad loss as they are very professional and you must be to.
You need to understand that you cannot win every hand you’re in, even if you are heavily favored. Hands which normally cause people go on tilt are hands that you were the favored or at a minimum believed you were up until you were hit and you squandered a gigantic chunk of your bankroll. Awful losses are going to happen. Embrace that certainty right now, I’ll say it again – if your siblings enjoy cards, if your mother plays cards, if your grandparents play cards – They have all had bad beats at some point. It’s an inevitable outcome of participating in Hold’em, or really any kind of poker.
Since we are assumingly (most of us) playing poker for one reason – to win $$$$, it certainly makes sense that we will wager appropriately to maximize our profit potential.
