Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. Phil started playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching period and winning was not a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Ivey credits his success to dedication and an eternal passion for poker. He states that he is learning every day and is very abashed about his accomplishments.
