No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup whatever he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative feedback from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.
Phil began competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an undying love for poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Even though Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
