[ English ]

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the planet by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover whatever he could about the game. He routinely would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the adverse feedback from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching experience and winning was not a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing love for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. He admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Although Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
